LOCATION

Darla Middle Secondary School was established in the year 1961 in an area of about 17.5 acres and located in DaraGeog, ChhukhaDzongkhag under PhuentsholingDrungkhag. It is 6kms towards THPA power house from Jumja Zero point on the Thimphu-Phuentsholing highway and a kilometer away from BBPL (Bhutan Broad Products Ltd).

The school slope area overlooks the most spectacular sight and breathtaking green mountainous landscape of Darla valley.

The need of a school in Darla locality was first conceived by Mr. Karna Bahadur Chhetri, the then Gup of TalaGeog, with some support from the local community members.

Initially the school was established about five hundred meters away from the present location in a horse stable present where four chorten stands, of ChapchaPenlop, DashoNagchung. This school existed as a community school headed by Mr. Laxmi Prasad Sharma in the late 1950’s.

 

The Present School

The present school, which started as Tala Primary School took shape in the current location in 1961 under the supervision of Mr. Karna Bahadur Chhetri, the then Gup. The leading protagonist, Mr. Karna Bahadur Chhetri, with some cooperation from the public, went to Paro and got the approval for the establishment of the school. The construction of this school initially started in 1961 and was completed in 1968 and recognized and started to function as a fully-fledged primary school under the headship of Mr. Rundra Basnet.

It serves the educational purpose of Darla and Bongo Geogs and other sectors like Darla DGPC, BBPL, RBA, DoR, RNR, RBP, BOB, BNB, BPC, BTC and the surrounding communities based on the immediate needs of their children. The school is categorized as semi-urban school. Currently the school has a total of 865 students with 38 regular teachers and 15 support staffs.
